However, it is his voice that is best known to those who watched the "Schoolhouse Rock" educational series on television. (Jack was the voice of the congressional bill in one cartoon, singing "I'm only a bill".) In the sixties, Jack ventured into stand-up comedy and later starred in his own situation comedy program on CBS-TV—"Run, Buddy, Run". This visually stunning production—the last Paramount film shot in VistaVision—could for many years be seen only in substandard public domain prints and discs. It has now been beautifully restored by Universal, with the support of The Film Foundation, and under the supervision of Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. The for...

more at http://quickfound.net/ "Early documentation of the American forest industry." Silent. NEW VERSION with improved video & sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyWiuVCbWWE Originally a public domain film from the Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumberjack Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ A lumberjack is a worker in the logging industry who performs the initial harvesting and transport of trees for ultimate processing into forest products. The term usually refers to a bygone era (before 1945 in the United States) when hand tools were used in harvesting trees. Because of its historical ties, the term lumberjack has become ingrained in popular culture through folklore, mass media and spectator sports. The actual work was difficult, dangerous, intermittent, low-paying, and primitive in living conditions, but the men built a traditional culture that celebrated strength, masculinity, confrontation with danger, and resistance to modernization... Lumberjacks worked in lumber camps and often lived a migratory life, following timber harvesting jobs as they opened. Being a lumberjack was seasonal work. Lumberjacks were exclusively men. They usually lived in bunkhouses or tents. Common equipment included the axe and crosscut saw. Lumberjacks could be found wherever there were vast forests to be harvested and a demand for wood, most likely in Scandinavia, Canada, and parts of the United States. In the U.S., many lumberjacks were of Scandinavian ancestry, continuing the family tradition. American lumberjacks were first centered in northeastern states such as Maine and then followed the general westward migration on the continent to the Upper Midwest, and finally the Pacific Northwest. Stewart Holbrook documented the emergence and westward migration of the classic American lumberjack in his first book, Holy Old Mackinaw: A Natural History of the American Lumberjack, and often wrote colorfully about lumberjacks in his subsequent books, romanticizing them as hard-drinking, hard-working men. Logging camps were slowly phased out between World War II and the early 1960s as crews could by then be transported to remote logging sites in motor vehicles. The division of labor in lumber camps led to several specialized jobs on logging crews, such as whistle punk, chaser, and high climber. The whistle punk's job was to sound a whistle as a signal to the yarder operator controlling the movement of logs and act as a safety lookout, and a good whistle punk had to be alert and think fast as the safety of the others depended on him. The high climber (also known as a tree topper) used iron climbing hooks and rope to ascend a tall tree in the landing area of the logging site, where he would chop off limbs as he climbed, chop off the top of the tree, and finally attach pulleys and rigging to the tree so it could be used as a spar so logs could be skidded into the landing. High climbers and whistle punks were both phased out in the 1960s to early 1970s when portable steel towers replaced spar trees and radio equipment replaced steam whistles for communication. The chokersetters attached steel cables (or chokers) to downed logs so they could be dragged into the landing by the yarder. The chasers removed the chokers once the logs were at the landing. Chokersetters and chasers were often entry-level positions on logging crews, with more experienced loggers seeking to move up to more skill-intensive positions such as yarder operator and high climber, or supervisory positions such as hooktender. Despite the common perception that all loggers cut trees, the actual felling and bucking of trees were also specialized job positions done by fallers and buckers. Fallers and buckers were once two separate job titles but are now combined. During the era before modern diesel or gasoline powered equipment, what machinery existed was steam-powered, and animal- or steam-powered skidders could be used to haul harvested logs to nearby railroads for shipment to sawmills. Horse driven logging wheels was a means used for moving logs out of the woods. Another way for transporting logs to sawmills was to float them down a body of water or a specially-constructed log flume. Log rolling, the art of staying on top of a floating log while "rolling" the log by walking, was another skill much in demand among lumberjacks. Spiked boots known as "caulks" or "corks" were used for log rolling and often worn by lumberjacks as their regular footwear...

FILM DESCRIPTION: In this darkly comic drama, Edward Norton stars as a depressed young man (named in the credits only as "Narrator") who has become a small cog in the world of big business. He doesn't like his work and gets no sense of reward from it, attempting instead to drown his sorrows by putting together the "perfect" apartment. He can't sleep and feels alienated from the world at large; he's become so desperate to relate to others that he's taken to visiting support groups for patients with terminal diseases so that he'll have people to talk to. One day on a business flight, he discovers Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a charming iconoclast who sells soap. Tyler doesn't put much stock in the materialistic world, and he believes that one can learn a great deal through pain, misfortune, and chaos. Tyler cheerfully challenges his new friend to a fight. Our Narrator finds that bare-knuckle brawling makes him feel more alive than he has in years, and soon the two become friends and roommates, meeting informally to fight once a week. As more men join in, the "fight club" becomes an underground sensation, even though it's a closely guarded secret among the participants. (First rule: Don't talk about fight club. Second rule: Don't talk about fight club.) But as our Narrator and Tyler bond through violence, a strange situation becomes more complicated when Tyler becomes involved with Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), whom our Narrator became infatuated with when they were both crashing the support-group circuit. Based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club was directed by David Fincher, who previously directed Pitt in the thriller Seven. Public domain film from the Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumberjack A lumberjack is a worker in the logging industry who performs the initial harvesting and transport of trees for ultimate processing into forest products. The division of labor in lumber camps led to several specialized jobs on logging crews, such as whistle punk, chaser, and high climber.[7] The whistle punk's job was to sound a whistle as a signal to the yarder operator controlling the movement of logs and act as a safety lookout, and a good whistle punk had to be alert and think fast as the safety of the others depended on him. Fallers and buckers were once two separate job titles but are now combined... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_rolling Logrolling (log birling or just birling), is a sport that originated in the lumberjack/log driver tradition of the northeastern United States and Canada, involving logs in a river (traditionally) or other body of water. After bringing their logs downriver, the lumberjacks have a competition to see who can balance on a log the longest while it is still rolling in the river. The contest involves two lumberjacks, each on one end of a log floating in the river. One or the other starts "walking" (or "rolling") the log, and the other is forced to keep up. The contest involves attempting to stay on the log while attempting to cause the competitor to lose their balance and splash into the water...

more at http://phones.quickfound.net AT&T high-end business marketing film for PBX (Private Branch eXchange) switchboards. The film stars Audrey Meadows & Ruta Lee, the cinematographer was Hal Mohr (A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Phantom of the Opera, Rancho Notorious...). Two different kinds are shown: Audrey Meadows' PBX is a more traditional cord switchboard. The operator answers and connects calls by plugging cords into jacks. Ruta Lee's PBX is the latest (in 1965) cordless switchboard. Calls are processed by pressing a sequence of buttons, instead of using cords and jacks. Public domain film from the Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_telephone_system#Private_branch_exchange A private branch exchange (PBX) is a telephone exchange or switching system that serves a private organization and performs concentration of central office lines or trunks and provides intercommunication between a large number of telephone stations in the organization. The central office lines provide connections to the public switched telephone network and the concentration aspect of a PBX permits the shared use of these lines between all stations in the organization. The intercommunication aspect allows two or more stations to establish telephone or conferencing calls between them without using the central office equipment. Each PBX-connected station, such as a telephone set, a fax machine, or a computer modem, is often referred to as an extension and has a designated extension telephone number that may or may not be mapped automatically to the numbering plan of the central office and the telephone number block allocated to the PBX. Initially, the primary advantage of a PBX was the cost savings for internal phone calls: handling the circuit switching locally reduced charges for telephone service via the central office lines. As PBX systems gained popularity, they were equipped with services that were not available in the public network, such as hunt groups, call forwarding, and extension dialing. In the 1960s a simulated PBX known as Centrex provided similar features from the central telephone exchange. A PBX is differentiated from a key telephone system (KTS) in that users of a key system manually select their own outgoing lines on special telephone sets that control buttons for this purpose, while PBXs select the outgoing line automatically or, formerly, by an operator. The telephone sets connected to a PBX do not normally have special keys for central office line control, but it is not uncommon for key systems to be connected to a PBX to extend its services. A PBX, in contrast to a key system, employs an organizational numbering plan for its stations. In addition, a dial plan determines whether additional digit sequences must be prefixed when dialing to obtain access to a central office trunk. Modern number analysis systems permit users to dial internal and external telephone numbers without special codes to distinguish the intended destination. History The term PBX was first applied when switchboard operators managed company switchboards manually using cord circuits. As automated electromechanical switches and later electronic switching systems gradually replaced the manual systems, the terms private automatic branch exchange (PABX) and private manual branch exchange (PMBX) were used to differentiate them. Solid state digital systems were sometimes referred to as electronic private automatic branch exchanges (EPABX). Today, the term PBX is by far the most widely recognized. The acronym is now applied to all types of complex, in-house telephony switching systems. Two significant developments during the 1990s led to new types of PBX systems. One was the massive growth of data networks and increased public understanding of packet switching. Companies needed packet switched networks for data, so using them for telephone calls was tempting, and the availability of the Internet as a global delivery system made packet switched communications even more attractive. These factors led to the development of the voice over IP PBX, or IP-PBX. The other trend was the idea of focusing on core competence. PBX services had always been hard to arrange for smaller companies, and many companies realized that handling their own telephony was not their core competence. These considerations gave rise to the concept of the hosted PBX...

Story from WrestlingNine.com: This New Jack match took place in Orlando at PWX. Nobody wanted to wrestle New Jack, so they put a couple rookies in the ring who never heard of him. When one of the kids missed the spot to "go home" (which means end the match), New Jack crushed his head and gave him a concussion by using the "wrong side" of the chair. In this case New Jack intentionally hurt the rookie for his failure in the ring. He wound up going home in an ambulance that night and having over $10,000 in medical bills. Jack Sheldon (1931 - ) is a jazz trumpet player who came out of the West Coast jazz scene in the 1950's. He has played and led his own groups and orchestras and has appeared and toured with some of the all-time greats in jazz. He also played on several pop recordings and film soundtracks. This rare clip is a good example of Jack's talent as a stand-up comedian. The performance is from a TV pilot aired in 1964 on the CBS Network. The program was called "The Nut House". It was produced by Jay Ward and Bill Scott (of "Rocky & Bullwinkle"), but never made it as a regular series. The program was pre-recorded on video tape and aired for one hour. The night the program aired, I recorded much of the sound track on reel-to-reel tape (no home VCR's in those days). Several years later, a kinescope recording of portions of the video tape was made available on a VHS cassette by a mail order house that marketed public-domain material. Fortunately, this routine of Jack's was included in that VHS issue. The routine Jack performed on the program was one he had recorded the year before on a stand-up comedy record album. It's about hunting with a falcon—a very unlikely subject for a comedy bit. Not until I obtained the VHS copy of the kinescope recording did I learn that 1:13 of the routine was cut from the telecast, possibly because of time constraints, but perhaps because of CBS Standards and Practices. Jack appeared in other sketches on this "nutty" program. I posted one you can view at: http://www.youtube.com/user/pianopappy?feature=mhee#p/u/1/DeRAZJdTu38 Another sketch in this program featured Jack as a percussionist who, because he lost his first set of cymbals, had his next pair permanently fused to his hands. Apparently, only my audio recording of that one survives, because it was not included in the VHS release.

Martin Scorsese introduced a screening of Marlon Brando's sole directorial effort, 'One-Eyed Jacks' (1961), during the 54th New York Film Festival. He and Steven Spielberg recently oversaw a restoration of the film, which is now playing at Film Forum. The only film directed by Marlon Brando, an adaptation of Charles Neider’s novel (inspired by the life of Billy the Kid), is an unorthodox western that’s as fresh, unpredictable, and physical as Brando’s lead performance. This visually stunning production—the last Paramount film shot in VistaVision—could for many years be seen only in substandard public domain prints and discs. It has now been beautifully restored by Universal, with the support of The Film Foundation, and under the supervision of Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. The formidable cast includes Karl Malden, Katy Jurado, Slim Pickens, Ben Johnson, Timothy Carey, Elisha Cook Jr., and the wonderful Mexican actress Pina Pellicer. -- The 17-day New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent. The five-person selection committee is chaired by New York Film Festival Director Kent Jones and includes esteemed critics, curators, and programmers. Since 1963, the New York Film Festival has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to Lincoln Center. In addition to the Main Slate official selections, the festival includes newly restored classics, special events, filmmaker talks, panel discussions, an Avant-Garde showcase, and much more. The Grill House in Allegan Michigan. Delicious steak -- with GHOSTS! Sorry the dialogue is at half volume for some technical reason. So, when the people on camera talk they are louder than the narrator... it's cool, welcome to the editor's world of rough cut audio! The Ghosts are about the most extreme example of 'animatte on the AVID gone about' as wild as I've done. It's an artform, really -- anyone else have cool shows with animatte? Trivia: A matte is a cookie cutter shaped hole in one layer of media that allows the 2nd to show through. Animatte is drawn frame by frame by the editor. In this case, I placed images from public domain lumber jacks behind the scene, threw a glow around them, and moved the background plate to match the foreground camera pan. Repeat 3 times and rinse. Trivia #2: Editors are more often becoming digital compositors, and writers, and producers, and story tellers.... etc. As en executive producer, I see the sense in replacing a small team of producers and writers and graphics people with one editor. But, I do NOT see the sense in insisting the best editors are paid nothing more for these newly defined roles! Also, I don't see why more producers don't learn to edit at the rough cut stage! Eventually, we will all be working at home, cutting hi-def realtime over the internet. presented for artistic demo purposes: editing Producing editor. (c) Travel Channel

THE ROAD by Jack London - FULL AudioBook | GreatestAudioBooks.com - The Road is an autobiographical memoir by Jack London, first published in 1907. It is London's account of his experiences as a hobo in the 1890s, during the worst economic depression the United States had experienced up to that time. He describes his experiences hopping freight trains, "holding down" a train when the crew is trying to throw him off, begging for food and money, and making up extraordinary stories to fool the police. He also tells of the thirty days that he spent in the Erie County Penitentiary, which he described as a place of "unprintable horrors," after being "pinched" (arrested) for vagrancy. In addition, he recounts his time with Kelly's Army, which he joined up with in Wyoming and remained with until its dissolution at the Mississippi River.(Summary adapted from wikipedia. org - attribution: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Road_(Jack_London)&action=history) ►For FREE SPECIAL AUDIOBOOK OFFERS & MORE: http://www.GreatestAudioBooks.com ►SUBSCRIBE to Greatest Audio Books: http://www.youtube.com/GreatestAudioBooks ►Become a FRIEND: http://www.Facebook.com/GreatestAudioBooks ►BUY T-SHIRTS & MORE: http://bit.ly/1akteBP ►Visit our WEBSITE: http://www.GreatestAudioBooks.com - READ along by clicking (CC) for Closed Caption Transcript! - LISTEN to the entire audiobook for free! His powerful performance is buttressed by lush landscapes and architectural edifices of transcendent conception. This video was made before Jack Knight of the Azure Blue was revealed, and I will update the list accordingly when all EXFO Jack Knight cards are known. Anyways, this deck's pretty neato. Jack Knights as an archetype only function when their opponent has something on their board. For this reason, I built this deck to go 2nd only - running Kaijus and Struggling Battles with a plethora of hand traps as well. Since practically every other deck wants to go 1st, you're pretty much guaranteed to go 2nd as the deck is designed to do. Assuming your opponent builds a board, you can break it with Struggling Battle, Kaijus, Jack Knight of the Crimson Lotus / Yellow Bloom. From that point onwards, you can snowball out of control with Purple Dusk accumulating advantage and hand traps to lock out your opponent's attempts to regain control. Also, since you're going 2nd, your opponent likely won't play around Jack Knight's column mechanics. Often they will fill a column on their own, leading to a 2 card Blue Sky search, which can serve as excellent fuel for your field spell draw. Overall, this archetype is still fairly bad - but it was a lot better than I expected.
